The Staffordshire County Championship was held at Garlands on 20th July 2014.
Exceptional targets set by Steve Lovatt and good weather for the competition.
County Champion: Brett Hand 95/100.
Veteran Champion: John Smallman 85/100.
Ladies Champion: L J Dale 52/100.
Junior Champion: Sam Upton 72/100.
Many thanks to Clay Shooting Company for their hospitality.

Great targets at Garlands Shooting Ground on the 18th August with the winning Staffordshire FITASC team winning gold at West Midlands Intercounties.
Team: Chris Daniels, Adam Cork, Steve Ward, Tim Simmons, Daz Park and
Tony Thompson.
Well done Boys.
West Midlands Intercounties sporting held at Garlands on the 14th September, Staffordshire won the Parker and Hale for the 7th consecutive year.
This year the team consisted of Chris Daniels, Brett Hand, James Hand, Darren Park, Paul Rowbottom, Tim Simmons, Rob Bailey, Adie Salt, Adam Cork and Tony Thompson. Oh and Adam and Tony drove all the way from Scotland to shoot, that's what we call dedication.
Nearly forgot to say that the fantastic targets we all shot at were due to the guy who sets the course like this week in week out. Thanks to Steve Lovatt for the targets and of course Allison for the smooth running just like a well oiled machine.
My Congratulations to the Staffordshire Sporting Team for a tremendous result at the West Midland Intercounties held at Garlands on the 14th September.
Thanks to the Shooting grounds who have held our selection shoots, Doveridge, Kingsley Moor & Garlands.
Once again, many thanks to Steve Ward for his immeasurable help over such a long time for sorting out the dates, venues and times etc. (the list is endless)
Finally, the biggest thanks of all go to the Staffordshire shooters for their dedication.
Phil Daniels, Steve Ward: Sporting Team managers.
West Midland DTL Intercounties. Fauxdegla 31st August 2014
Many thanks to all the Staffordshire shooters who took time to represent their county.
It was a long 12 hour day from home to home.
New DTL team members Will Wainwright, Ian Hull, Alex Tinsley and Dawn Mintrim were a credit.
Staffordshire Juniors: Will Wainwright and Alex Tinsley won Gold.
Staffordshire Ladies: Gill Grealey and Dawn Mintrim secured a Bronze medal for themselves.
Staffordshire Veterans: Keith Smith, Alan Grealey and Keith Barningham also won a Bronze medal.
Keith being Intercounties Veteran High Gun.
Craig Nightingale picked up cash in AA and was Staffordshire High Gun.
Also picking up an envelope was Keith Barningham, Rob Olden, Alex Tinsley and Dave Malpass.
An excellent shoot with good, if slow targets and a well run venue made it a good day, but the absence of a list of team members before the shoot began and the final scores being posted after the shoot made it impossible to follow the proceedings throughout the day, and to sort the final team places as only the top three teams were disclosed.
On 25th August at Doveridge CSC, Staffordshire held its Olympic Skeet Championship.
Two young shooters who are both on the British Shooting Talent Pathway Scheme took the honours. Dominic Cooper retained the championship

Staffordshire CPSA Committee needs you
Following the Staffordshire AGM on the 13th January 2014, it became very clear that Staffordshire are in need of Team Manager's for Skeet and some of the trap disciplines.
We currently have team managers for Sporting, FITASC and DTL.
If we cannot find team managers for the other disciplines, then there will be NO teams entered in the Intercounties shoots
and NO County Championship will be arranged for these disciplines.
You must remember that the position of team manager is voluntary and the Committee do not think that it is fair for others to take on the responsibility of these disciplines when they have their own disciplines to attend too.
The team managers for Sporting, FITASC and DTL will not be asked to take on the responsibility for Skeet and other Trap. This is now down to individuals to step up and help.
You do not need to be on the Committee to be a team manager although it certainly helps.
If anyone is interested in taking on the task of being a team manager for any of the above disciplines, then please contact a member of the Committee, use the Staffordshire CPSA website, or contact me directly at paulwberry@yahoo.co.uk
We are also looking for new Committee members, both Male & Female, however we only want people with a more constructive approach who have ideas that will take us forward.
The Staffordshire DTL, ABT, Double Rise and Single Barrel Championships will take place as they have been arranged to be competed for at Ranton CTC by DTL Team Manager Paul Berry and Ranton CTC.
The shoots are as follows:
2 March 2014 100 DTL 1st Clanford Trophy
6 April 2014 100 DTL 2nd Clanford Trophy
4 May 2014 100 DTL 3rd Clanford Trophy
1 June 2014 50 ABT Staffordshire Championship
6 July 2014 100 Single Barrel Staffordshire Championship
3 August 2014 100 DTL Staffordshire Championship
10 August 2014 100 U/T Staffordshire Championship Rugby DTC
7 Sept 2014 100 DTL Oakland House Trophy
2 Nov 2014 50 prs Double Rise Staffordshire Championship
The only other news I have is that the sporting selection shoot process is now
5 shoots with 3 to count. The selection process will remain the same.
Confirmed so far are:
30th March 2014 Doveridge
27th April 2014 Kingsley Moor

After the Double Rise Championship their was the Staffordshire presentation for the yearly achievement awards.
Staffordshire Shooter of the Year was awarded to Adam Gutteridge for his many wins this year and his contributions to the England and Great Britain Teams.
Ladies Shooter of the Year was Gill Grealey, the most prolific winner of Staffordshire trophies ever.
Junior Shooter of the Year was Alex Tinsley.
Newcomer of the Year was Lara Dale.
An excellent turn out and a great thank you from the Staffordshire Chairman and Committee for everyone who found the time to attend and again to Ranton for hosting the presentation.
On a sombre note, would anyone still in possession of cups, shields, plaques or any Staffordshire awards that need returning for the new winners then please do so. It is unfair to new winners who have spent time and money to win Championships only to be denied the pleasure of a trophy.
On 20 September 2014 Staffordshires Dominic Cooper won the Olympic Skeet competition at Southern Counties SG for the England Talent Pathway scheme which has been running throughout the summer.
On a misty and overcast day, and with intense competition from the other shooters Dominic scored 93/100 to take the championship.
Peter Wilson MBE presented Dominic with his prize of 500 cartridges. Dominic would like to thank all the coaches on the scheme, in particular Alan Warren, his own coach Joe Neville, and his sponsors Lyalvale Expess and Fabarm for all their continued support and encouragement.
My Congratulations to the Staffordshire Sporting Team
On 25th August at Doveridge CSC, Staffordshire held its Olympic Skeet Championship.

with a score of 91/100, and Lara Dale, who has only recently taken up the discipline, took the ladies title with 55/100. Congratulations to both youngsters who turned up and competed in appalling conditions.

The Staffordshire Sporting Team held their 3rd selection shoot on Sunday 18th May 2014 at Oakedge Shooting Ground, with a very impressive attendance.
The shoot was over 12 stands with the High Gun from the Staffordshire Selection being Brett Hand with a score of 94/100.
The shoot was dedicated in fond memory of Ray Probert, a regular shooter at Oakedge Shooting Ground (formally Shugborough) and also for Staffordshire.
Oakedge being his favourite shooting ground, he would have been very proud of the turnout.
Mrs. Probert had organised a trophy to be presented to the High Gun, and will now run at Oakedge as an annual event.
Lyalvale Express also donated 100 Powder Blue cartridges.
Ray was certainly a character and friend and is sadly missed by all.

On Saturday 22nd March 2014 Dominic Cooper, aged 15, entered the English Open OSK Competition at Beverley in Yorkshire. Conditions on the day were sunny, cold and very windy. Dominic was drawn in squad 1 peg 1 and set a brisk pace in the demanding conditions finishing with a score of 90/100. This score gave him the Colt High Gun, D Class Winner, and the Junior runner up. Dominic would like to thank his sponsors Fabarm, for supplying him with the gun and having faith in him, Kevin Gill and Mike Mansfield for the encouragement they have shown in him, and his coach Joe Neville for his patience and knowledge.

2013
Staffordshire Sporting Team 2013
The West Midlands Inter Counties Sporting Championship was held on Sunday 8th September at Steve and Allison Lovatt's ground Westfield. The targets were equal to the stunning views which this ground boasts. How this man keeps on setting course's that keeps shooters on there toes and makes it a joy to shoot is beyond me.
We were treated to some fantastic shooting from some top County shooters.
Staffordshire Ladies consisted of:
Sam Thompson, Claire Maney and New cap, junior, Annabelle Lane with Joanne Sargeant being reserve.
They all shot fantastically well and came fourth.
Staffordshire Veterans had more success and came home with gold.
The team:
John Smallman, Phil Durber and Ken Oakes.
Staffordshire Juniors:
After winning silver last year it was great to see the lads win gold.
The winning team:
Sam Upton, new cap James Ward and Sam Down.
These lads are our future so we are in safe hands.
Staffordshire Seniors, they were brilliant, considering we were missing the likes of
Adam Cork, Steve Williams and Keith Hodgkinson to name a few, the men we sent down to Westfield certainly did there job.
Winning the Parker and Hale Challenge Trophy for the sixth consecutive year.
The team was made up of:
Chris Daniels, Tony Thompson, Phil Bailey, Kev Sherratt, Tim Simmons, James Hand, Brett Hand, Steve Ward, Sean Mcnamara and Richard Stubbs.
Then, in my opinion, comes the best part:
The Master Shoot.
Chris Daniels represented us (Staffordshire). There was a 20 target final and we witnessed some extreme shooting by Chris to straight all 20 targets, this was something special, so well done Chris for becoming The Masters Champion.
As Steve Lovatt was presenting the medals the news was coming in that Steve Williams was being crowned the new English FITASC Champion (shot at Kegworth).
Well done Steve, great shooting.

New Sporting Selection Process for 2013
After lengthy discussions and a vote at the Staffordshire AGM, it was decided by the committee that the first 5 places will be decided by the current CPSA average scores.
The top 5 will be automatically asked to shoot for the County, provided that they have shot more than 1000 targets and have shot them at least two different grounds.
All other team selections will be the same as last year, 6 selection shoots with 3 to count.
At the moment I (Steve Ward Sporting Manager) am in discussion with shooting grounds to accommodate the selection shoots.
The first selection shoot is on the 24th March 2013 at Kingsley Moor Shooting Ground.

The Staffordshire Trophy & Presentation Shoot held at Ranton CTC on 24th September 2011
was a very pleasant afternoon was had by all with the winner of the 25 bird DTL and a 25 Compact Sporting competition being no other than Joe Kitson.
Trophies were given and re-presented and photographed with their winners for Pull Magazine.
The main presentations were for the Staffordshire Achievement Award and The Staffordshire Ladies Shooter of the Year.
We also had a Newcomer of the Year Trophy, but unfortunately the inaugural winner was shooting elsewhere. The Winner for 2011, Dominic Cooper, who I'm told is just 12 years old.
A very worthy Dave Winter was again Gill Grealey, who picked up the picked up the Achievement Award and it prestigious Ladies Shooter of the Year trophy that she won last year also.
Jane Hemmings picked up the Ladies Sporting High Gun Trophy.
Alan Everit picked up the Vets Sporting High Gun Trophy.
Alas, as always when the raffle prizes were drawn, I was over 100 away from the nearest winning ticket.
Many thanks to Cynthia and Tom for the food & drink and to the work of the Staffordshire Committee and to the Ranton Committee for organizing the shoot and excellent targets.

2008 Championship Reports
West Midlands Single Barrel & Double Rise
On the 26 October 2008 Mid Wales SG hosted the
West Midlands Single Barrel & Double Rise Championships.
Although targets were sometimes lost in the brightness of the day, on the whole it was a cracking good day.
In the Single Barrel Championship, Staffordshire took the first three West Midlands
places with:
James Rowley winning Gold 96/100
Jack Rowley winning Silver 95/100
Bob Taylor winning Bronze 94/100
Overall High Gun was S Gerrard with 98/100
The Double Rise Championships went the same way as Staffordshire again took
the first three places.
Bob Taylor winning Gold 86/100
Stewart Clarke winning Silver 82/100
James Rowley winning Bronze 81/100
As a warmer up for the Single Barrel, Jack and James shot the
Shropshire Single Barrel Championships at Bridgnorth the previous weekend.
They both tied for high gun on 97/100 but as it was a Shropshire Championship they
had to make do with joint high gun and not the trophy.

At Mid Wales on 23 March 2008 he crushed all opposition with an awsome 100/299 to lift the West Midlands DTL Championship.
Excellent for anyone, but for a Junior it's just amazing, especially as all the West Midlands top trap shooters were there.
Welsh International Sharron Ebbrell also deserves praise as she shot a super 100/298
Who says that Juniors or Ladies can't match or beat the male shooters.
Once again, well done James, superb.
