STAFFORDSHIRE Website : UNIVERSAL TRENCH

Welcome to the Staffordshire CPSA Universal Trench (UTR) Page

Universal Trench (UTR) is sometimes known as "Five Trap". Five traps are installed in a trench in front of the shooting stands. When the shooter calls 'Pull!' one of the traps, selected at random, throws a clay.

Elevations and flight angles of the targets vary, and are set to one of 10 official schemes that are selected at random before any competition.

💥 Universal Trench – Staffordshire County, WM Area & Inter Counties 💥

💥 30th April 2023 💥

Another terrific day for Staffordshire's shooters, this time down in the trenches…..the Universal Trenches to be precise 🙂. Fauxdegla hosted the CPSA Staffordshire County, West Midlands Area and Inter County UT championships.

In the WM Area, a brilliant performance from Adam Gutteridge saw him once more take Gold and overall High Gun with 95ex100. This was backed up by Ian Hull and Ray Sutton sharing the Bronze with Craig Miles (Hereford & Worcester). This also gave Ian Hull an excellent Gold in the Veterans. Great shooting guys!

UT County Champion - Adam Gutteridge

No surprise that this put Team Staffordshire in pole position to take the Inter Counties. Delighted to say that Staffordshire defended their title, finishing on on 447ex500 to take Gold.

Many congratulations to Team Manager Ian Hull and his team mates, Adam Gutteridge, Richard Lees-Styler, Martin Osbourne, Ray Sutton and Darren Wood.

Staffs County Champion was Adam Gutteridge, Veteran Champion was Ian Hull with Gill Grealey taking the Ladies title.

Last but no means least, our thanks to Mike and Debbie Faux and all of the team at Fauxdegla Shooting Ground for putting on a great shoot.

In the WM Area, a terrific performance from Adam Gutteridge saw him take Gold 🥇 with 96ex100. This was backed up by Silver 🥈 for Staffordshire's Gareth Stanford-Iddon with Darren Wood sharing the Bronze 🥉 with John Reilly (Warwickshire). 💥 Universal Trench English Open - 16-17 April 2022 💥

Congratulations to our own Leah Southall who put in another great performance in the UT English Open at Nuthampstead Shooting Ground this weekend.

Leah shot a PB on day 1 of 92/100, backing it up with 91 on day 2 to give her 183/200, a 200 bird PB! 👏

This placed her joint 2nd in Juniors with Jonti Spilman and Finley Bowles. Leah then hit a superb 25 straight in the pressure of a shoot-off to take the 2nd place.

She was also runner-up in Ladies, behind Kath Bright by just one clay.

Terrific shooting Leah. It's great to see your progress and how you've developed into such a consistently top shooter.

💥 Universal Trench English Open - 4 July 2021 💥

Terrific result and fantastic achievement to qualify for the GB team - well done Leah Southall 💥 👏 🏆 🇬🇧

Leah writes:

"I have had an amazing weekend down Brook Bank Shooting Ground shooting the English Open UT. It was wet and windy for the majority of the weekend and the lighting was quite poor too. Yesterday I shot an 89/100 (23, 22, 22, 22) which is a new PB, beating my previous one by 6 clays. Today I shot an 86/100 (21, 21, 25, 19), shooting my first ever UT 25 straight.

I was a bit disappointed with the 19, but whilst shooting that round, the wind really picked up as I was shooting in the middle of a thunderstorm (it was not fun I tell you). This gave me a combined weekend total of 175/200 (a new 2 day PB).

This placed me first in ladies, 3rd in juniors and joint 2nd in D Class. I am also pleased to announce that I have made the GB ladies team so I will be going over to Malaga in August to shoot the UT World Championships as a member of the team, which I am over the moon about!

This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my sponsors (Laporte/CPC, Eley Hawk, CENS, Ed Lyons, MacWet, Beretta/GMK), the training at Park Farm every Thursday, my coach Rod Gould, and my parents

(I would like to dedicate this win to my mum as she always knew my dream was to make the GB team).

Congratulations to all of the winners this weekend and to everyone who made the team (especially to all of the new caps).

Thank you to Wes and Alison at the ground for a great run shoot.

Not bad considering I’ve only been shooting UT for a few months!

This is for you mom!!!"

💥 Universal Trench British Grand Prix - 13 June 2021 💥

Well shot Leah Southall - great performance to win the shoot-off and take the Bronze!!! Massively proud of you, Leah 👏 🥉

Leah writes.......

"Great weekend at Fauxdegla Shooting Ground for the UT British Grand Prix 🇬🇧 .

I got off to a very poor start on day 1, but managed to pull it back slightly to shoot a 76/100. Going into day 2, I was 4th in ladies by only 3 clays, so I was looking to better my score and finish in a medal position.

Today, I shot an 82/100 (one off my competition personal best), giving me a combined weekend total of 158/200. While I would have liked to have shot better, I am pleased to have improved on day 1’s score.

My score placed me joint 3rd in Ladies with two other ladies. This meant I had to go into a three-way shoot off to determine who would win the bronze medal. I pulled through and shot a 23 which I am over the moon with, especially because this was my first UT shoot off!

Congratulations to Ed Ling for winning high gun and to all of the other winners. Well shot also to Tom Betts who won juniors and to Kath Bright who won the ladies.

Thank you to Mike and Debbie and the rest of the staff for a great run shoot. Thank you also to my sponsors for their continued support."

💥 UK Universal Trench Championships – 23 May 2021 💥

Congratulations to one of our top Ladies Juniors, Leah Southall who took part in the UK Universal Trench Championships at the National Clay Shooting Centre this weekend.

As we all know, weather conditions were not exactly friendly this weekend(!), so credit to Leah for shooting a UT PB of 83ex100 on day 2, giving her an overall score of 163ex200.

This placed her 4th in Ladies and joint 4th in D class. Terrific effort Leah 👏 👏 💥
