Chairman’s Report

2025 was another excellent season for Staffordshire and our shooters.  My thanks to everyone on the Committee who has helped with that continued success.  It’s a proper team effort and the fact that we work so well as a team is born out by our results.

We are awaiting to see if we have retained the prestigious Lyalvale Trophy for the fourth successive year.  Retaining this trophy is not only good for the County but provides important funding for a range of activities, such as updating trophies, supplying the Staffs polo shirts and supporting initiatives such as Ladies development days.

The polo shirts continue to be extremely popular.  I’d like to thank Valerie and our supplier, Elite Logos 4U.  I’d also like to thank our sponsors, Solware and Lyalvale Express. It’s always encouraging to see so many people wearing them with pride, particularly evident at the Inter-County competitions and Clubman event.

Regarding our County Championships, we ran events in almost every discipline, thirteen in total, with plans for Compak and Skeet Doubles to be on the menu for 2026.

There is a table on our website here which shows all of the winners across the various disciplines and categories.  Trophies were shared out across most of the categories with 10 different County Champions, 9 Senior Champions and 11 different Veteran Champions, demonstrating a great strength in depth and engagement.  In the Ladies, Carole Wilson dominated across a number of disciplines, winning 6 trophies!  Gill Grealey and Davina Rowe were the other winners.  And in the Juniors, we again had great representation, with 5 difference winners: George Bramley, Archie Gale, Fin Jacques, Kain Maher and Lewis Sones.

In the Inter-Counties, we competed in all but one of the championships, winning 4 Golds, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronze.  We’ve had 62 different people shoot for Staffordshire this year (including the Clubman), an exceptionally high level of engagement and involvement across so many disciplines and categories.  This shows just how inclusive we are as a County, something I’m very proud of.

I’d like to thank all the Team Managers for their hard work in putting the teams together and for organising the County Championships that were so well run and supported.

We also entered teams to the National Inter-County All Round and ABT competitions, with our Seniors and Juniors taking Gold in the former and the ABT squad taking Silver.

We continue to have strong engagement on social media with over 1000 followers on Facebook and an excellent Instagram account – thank you, Valerie!  Our website has up-to-date news, fixtures and results across all disciplines and a section specifically for anyone who is new to shooting. We also have a full county round-up in every issue of ‘Pull! Magazine’.

It just remains for me to say thank you to everyone who has again supported me as Chairman, not least my fellow Committee members.

I’m looking forward to doing what I can to help make 2026 another successful and enjoyable year for shooting in Staffordshire.

Treasurer’s Report

Our opening balance at 1st January 2025 was £2273.45

Total income received in 2025 was £2193.96

Total expenditure for 2025 was £2408.02

Therefore, for 2024, we had a net loss of £214.06

This left us with a closing balance at 31st December 2025 of £2059.39

Our main source of income in 2025 was levies received from the six ESP selection shoots where levies could be charged.  As always, a big thank you to our ESP team manager, Martin Butcher for organising these.  These selection shoots realised income of £1118.00.  We also received £350 from winning the Lyalvale Shield again.  Well done to all those who shot for Staffordshire.  A special thank you to all the Team Managers.  And the Chairman too, of course.

There was significant expenditure on both the Staffordshire Polo Shirts and updating various trophies.  I’m sure you’ll agree that this has been money very well spent.  My sincere thanks to Phil and Matthew for all their help and support at our suppliers, Elite Logos.4U. And to Matt Pickford in particular with the trophies.

Going forward into 2026, there will still be some expenditure on polo shirts, although this should be significantly less, as it will only be for new caps in the various Inter County or National Inter County squads.  Likewise, we are now largely up to date with our trophies and are likely to only require ones for the new Compak and Skeet Doubles County Championships and Skeet Grand Slam winner.

I anticipate that ESP selection shoots will again realise a significant amount of income, similar to last year.  We will continue to support these by again providing trophies for the various ESP selection shoot winners, which proved to be popular.

I will continue to monitor the effect of increased entry fees and cartridge costs on our members and their ability to participate, which could impact on our income from levies at both selection shoots and County championships.

As before, my intention is that we will maintain a closing balance of at least £2000 at the end of the year.
