Welcome to the Staffordshire CPSA Down The Line (DTL) Page
Down-the-Line Trap (DTL) is the most popular version of trap in the UK. One trap is set in the centre of the layout, with five stands, or pegs, in a line behind it.
Starting from the left peg, each shooter takes their turn shooting at an individual target. Once all five shooters have shot, the leftmost shooter starts the process again, until each shooter has shot at five targets. At this point, the shooters move one peg to the right (the shooter on peg five goes around the back of the line to stand one), and the process starts again. The person who shot first on the initial five targets always starts the shooting no matter what stand they are on. These rounds of five shots followed by moving continue until every shooter has shot at 25 targets.
A single target is thrown each time the shooter calls ‘Pull!’, but the shooter has two shots to hit the target. Three points are awarded for a first-barrel hit, and two points if a second shot is needed. A miss gives no points.

Staffordshire County Champion - John Simmons
A full turn out at Ranton for our DTL County Championship today under grey clouds that, for the most part, kept the rain to themselves.
Delighted to report that our County Champion for 2024 is John Simmons! DOWN THE LINE TEAM MANAGER WANTED
YOUR COUNTY NEEDS YOU!
Staffordshire CPSA are looking for a DTL Team Manager.
We already have our County Championship in the diary, taking place on Sunday 6th August at Ranton Clay Target Club. It’s a great opportunity to encourage friends to come along and take part.
We then have the Inter Counties Championship, taking place at Holmes Chapel on Sunday 20th August.
We need your help in putting together a Senior squad (6 shooters with 5 scores to count) and ideally, squads for Veterans, Ladies and Juniors (3 shooters with 2 scores to count).
You could, of course, use the County shoot on 6th August as a selection shoot to determine your squads. If you need any help, there are people on the committee, and no doubt others, who can assist.
You can find out more about Team Manager duties on our website here: https://sites.cpsa.co.uk/staffordshire/team-managers
Please drop us a line on Facebook Messenger if you’re interested in taking on this important role.
Steve – Vice-Chair and Secretary

βLeah Southall Shooting for England in 2018
βHere is what Leah had to say after being awarded her well earned team place.
"I am absolutely over the moon to say that I have earned a place to shoot for the England Ladies DTL team for the Home International and European Championships this year.
The second and final selection shoot was held at Beverley CTC this weekend. The sun was shining the whole weekend and there were some excellent scores coming in on both days.
On Saturday I had a bit of a difficult start missing the first two targets out, but I didn’t let it put me off as I shot two rounds of 25/74 which gave me a score of 96/281. Today I started well with a 25/72, but I struggled with a few of the targets on my second line with a score of 25/69 but I pulled it back for the last two rounds giving me a score of 99/284.
My overall score for the weekend was 195/565 which placed me 1st in Colts, 2nd in B Class and 3rd in Ladies.I’m now really looking forward to shooting both the Home Internationals and the European Championships at Mid Wales Shooting Centre in July!"
